During their joint visit to China, Emmanuel Macron and Ursula von der Leyen were seeking to influence Xi Jinping’s stance on Russia. But the Chinese leader did not act the way his guests wanted him to, possibly due to inappropriate remarks about Thailand, or misguided comments on the Ukraine conflict.
